Just so you know, philosophically I am now at a different place than when I started this blog. Whereas new restaurants were exciting to me a few years ago, now as the neighborhood looks and feels increasingly more like Manhattan, they sometimes make me nostalgic for the way things used to be. So I’ve decided to post more about the things that do not cost money and less about the stuff that might give folks considering moving to the new trendy hood but who only care about “amenities” the wrong kind of idea about the soul of Fort Greene. In other words: I would rather no longer contribute to the cultural carnage that has slowly taken place in Fort Greene over the twelve or so years that I have lived here and therefore I no longer post exclusively about the things I do here that happen to cost money.

Also, as I feel more and more bored by Fort Greene’s boilerplate Mcmakeover, I am increasingly hanging out everywhere else in Brooklyn that reminds me of the old Fort Greene: Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights and Flatbush. Hope you enjoy the ride if you choose to come along.

SECOND EDITION OF PLENTY: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO LIFE & LEISURE IN CLINTON HILL/FORT GREENE GOES GREEN FOR 2010 RELEASE

The second edition of PLENTY: The Ultimate Guide to Life & Leisure in Clinton Hill/Fort Greene (RedMEDIA), by Jelani Bandele, is scheduled for release in June 2010.

The community guide, featuring listings of brick & mortar and home-based businesses, houses of worship community organizations, restaurants, bars, web sites, Wi-Fi locations, elected officials, history, ongoing events and more, proved to be a valuable resource for area residents, employees and visitors when first published in 2003. In addition to listings, Plenty will also include neighborhood history and profiles. In keeping with the theme of green, Plenty will be printed on-demand.

Community residents, businesses, organizations, employees and visitors may join the Plenty Community on Facebook, subscribe to the Plenty blog and follow Plenty on Twitter. Mobile movers and shakers who wish to become fans on Facebook may text “fan PUGchfg” to FBOOK (32665) from their mobile phones, to be added as fans instantly.

I was gone to a different continent and far far away from Myrtle this summer which is why I didn’t post on Twitter or the blog then. I was back in the beginning of fall and resumed Twittering (hopefully you noticed!) but not blogging.

Why didn’t I post a goodbye note when I left this summer? Because part of me felt very guilty of not being able to Myrtle blog and of letting my beloved readers down. First my excuse was that I needed to concentrate on getting everything ready for my trip and that I’d write the note once in Africa. Then when I got there, internet access was not as regular and I kept prioritizing other things when online. I know, lame. Hopefully you’ll take this weird block as a sign of how much I care…

For now I am back and as soon as I figure out how to mobile blog (especially photoblog) from my new iPhone, I will resume mobile blogging.  I don’t think it will be that long. In the meanwhile I’m a little amused that learning how to  mobile photoblog from a Palm Centro came much easier than learning how to do the same from an iPhone! But it could just be me and where I’m at right now.

In any event, Twitter is definitely the best way to get your Myrtle Shuffle on as my Twitter stream features my tweets and any blog posts. See you on Myrtle soon?
